Overview of the Campsite

Camping at Graythwaite is located on the western shore of Windermere, offering stunning, uninterrupted views of the lake. Set up your tent or campervan on the expansive grassy pitches at the spacious Graythwaite Estate farm, and enjoy freshly brewed coffee each morning from the onsite shop. With lakeside trails and direct access to Lake Windermere, you'll be surrounded by natural beauty.

Information to Know

  • This campsite does not allow vehicles to enter the campground. Parking is located at the campsite reception next to the camping field. However, this was not a problem as there are wheelbarrows provided to assist in moving personal belongings to the field.

  • This is also a dog friendly campsite with lots of furry friends around.

  • It should be noted, this campsite is not within walking distance from any food establishments or pubs. Therefore we suggest you stock up well before hand.

  • A 10-minute drive from Hill Top; Ambleside 20 minutes

Facilities

Reception

The reception provided coffee and alcohol as well as a sheltered area and extension leeds for phone charging.

There is also the opportunity to hire out a very large fire pit from the reception for the duration of your stay. From memory I believe this cost around £10.

Showers and Toilets

The showers were free which is nice!

The showers are located on a raised platform situation and give the impression of porta-loo showers. However a free hairdryer was provided (not sure if this is always there or someone had accidentally left it), however there were also plugs for your own appliances if needed. The showers are quite small and there is only a small hook for hanging personal items however this is on the outside of the shower.

Waterside Locations

The site was perfectly located for water sports activities to launch your paddleboards or kayaks etc straight from the bottom of the field.

See pictures for the beach (bottom of this blog), located at the bottom of the campsite field.

What we did on our visit...

Hawkshead and Lake Windermere circular walk

Distance:

On our first day we joined the Windermere lake circular walk from the bottom of the campsite and made our way to Hawkshead. On the way we stopped at Esthwaite Water along the public footpath, where there was a log by the lake for a lunch break/Picnic. It took approximately,.. to reach Hawkshead. Whilst there we grabbed a pint at the 'KITTchEN: P*ssy & Pints' bar, which is a very cool bar if not pricey. Next we visited the Hawkshead Relish Company Ltd to purchase presents for family members. It would be atrocious to leave without an icecream from The Little Ice Cream Shop. For Saltburn film lovers, they even served a white icecream, classily called Jacob Elordi's bathwater... Finally we made out way over Claife Heights to drop down again to Windermere. On the way back we passed National Trust - Claife Viewing Station and Windermere West Shore which is a scenic beautiful location for the last snacks and flask break before the home run back to the campsite.
